User Experience

User Experience Design is a term coined by Donald Norman while he was Vice President of the Advanced Technology Group at Apple. Later he wrote, "I invented the term because I thought human interface and usability were too narrow. I wanted to cover all aspects of the person's experience with the system including industrial design, graphics, the interface, the physical interaction, and the manual."

User Experience is therefore a holistic, user-centered, highly contextual design mentality. In order to fully consider, and therefore influence a user's experience, we must understand the business objectives and user needs and then employ a number of varied design practices. These practices include the creation of functional specifications, content strategy, information architecture, interaction design, and visual design.

The interactions between all these practices is beautifully illustrated in Jesse James Garrett's diagram of the Elements of User Experience. We also highly recommend his book The Elements of User Experience for a deeper explanation.

Mutually Human's user centered design approach, prioritization of testing (including usability and market testing) as well as our agile development methodologies all work together to help us create the best possible experience for your users.

We aim to meet your business objectives and delight your users in the process. This will result in more than a great user experience, it will create a great experience — period.
